Always Feel Safe
I am interested in how societal values are articulated in architecture and public spaces. Architectural floor plans and aerial views are used for investigating the mechanisms of urban planning strategies and ideological control.
Using the medium of drawing and printmaking technique, a motif of geometric forms and lines runs through these images. This work uses a systematic approach to forge a personal sense of meaning and order from the rigidly controlled socio-political structures and turbulent disorder of contemporary cityscapes. It raises issues of the value of fear and state power but also the fragility of public spaces in a historical and cultural context.
